The CFTRI School, situated with in the campus of CFTRI, was established in the year 1964 to cater to the educational requirements of the children of CFTRI employees, Mysore.

CFTRI school in the city of Mysore, took birth in a modest way in the CFTRI Quarters D4 in 1964, thanks to the efforts of the staff of the Central Food Techoogical Research Institute (CFTRl) Mysore. To start with, the school had nursery classes and 1st standard only with one qualified teacher and an assistant for a class of approximately 20 students. Subsequently, classes upto VI standard were started with a minimum of three students in each class.

By this time, the school had shifted to the Assistant Director's Quarters E11 and in the year 1969, the school started functioning in the former palace stables, converted to Men's Hostel. The employees move out and the school took over. Since then, the school has been growing leaps and bounds. While classes from Nursery to I) standard were being hold the present building, the other classes continued to be held in the old building (converted Men's hostel).

By 1974 all the classes started functioning in the new building,which along with the lands, made available by the CSIR, Nèw Delhi as a welfare measure for the CFTR1 Staff. This noble gesture has proved to be of enormous help to the school. The management which had been entirely in the hands of the found member, was taken over by the CFTRI Education Society in 1970. Thanks to the Karnataka Government which started giving grant-in-aid from the same year.

In the year 1985, CSIR again made a munificient contribution to the school in the shape of a new High School building, fully equipped with furniture, total cost of Rs.13 Lakhs.

The school has now grown into a composite institution, offering complete instructional facilities from nursery to X standard, to more than 1250 students, and continues to march ahead with vigour and enthusiasm. Although the school was initially intended for CFTRI children, sooner the admission was thrown open to outside children, realizing the public need and demand on the one hand, and to avoid the otherwise isolation of the CFTRI staff children from the society at large, on the other. It is not the quantitly that counts but the quality that matters. With a faculty of 50 experienced and dedicated teachers, it has been maintaining good academic standards. In a span of 47 years, the school has attained an envious position of being one of the best schools in the city of Mysore.

It was in the year 1976-77 that high school classes were started.The first batch of students appeared for S.S.L.C. Examination in the year 1979. In the S.S.L.C. Examination, conducted over the last 32 years, the school has the unique distinction of having secured 100% results 6 times. It is heartening to note that two third of them always passed in First Class.

The School is now housed in a modern building. The nursery wing is newly equipped to cater to the requirements of the growing strength.

At present the school offers instructional facilities from nursery to X standard. We are the only school where English is offered as tile First language in the city of Mysore and is one of the few schools in Karnataka offering English as tile first language.

Since the last 47 years, the school has been serving admirably with the help of qualified and experienced faculty members and excellent management by the C FT R I education society.

The institution stands for certain basic principles, so that the childran are groomed into well disciplined worthy citizens, for which the school authorities solicit the co-operation of the parents.
